Science Live: How the Ancient Orient came to Berlin

Bookmark
An event organized by the Wilhelm-Foerster-Sternwarte eV Berlin

The Adventure of Old German Excavations in the Orient Speaker: Dr. Friedhelm Pedde - WFS The Vorderasiatisches Museum Berlin in the Pergamon Museum is closed for renovations until at least 2037. For this reason, reports will be published from time to time on the cultures of the Ancient Orient and the museum treasures that bear witness to them. The Vorderasiatisches Museum houses the third-largest collection of ancient Near Eastern antiquities in the Western world. The finds from Babylon, Assur, Uruk, and Tell Halaf make up the largest and most important part of the holdings. The excavations, the path of the finds to the Berlin museums, and their subsequent fate are inextricably linked to the historical background of colonialism, two world wars, the division of Germany, and reunification, resulting in an unusual and eventful history.
