Berlin network: Digital empowerment in old age
The network is aimed at all those who implement non-commercial offers for the digital empowerment of older people or who actively promote the topic as multipliers. We want to connect full-time employees and volunteers, share information and experiences, make needs and gaps visible and develop solutions together.
On July 8, 2025, the Berliner Netzwerk: Digitale Befähigung im Alter was officially founded by the Seniorennetz Berlin of the AWO Landesverband Berlin e.V. together with the Landeskompetenzzentrum Pflege 4.0 and on behalf of the Senate Department for Science, Health and Care.
The network is actively committed to ensuring that all older people in Berlin have the opportunity to acquire basic digital skills. Our common goal is to help older people to navigate the digital world safely and independently.

Declaration of the Berlin network: Digital empowerment in old age
Digital participation is an important prerequisite for taking part in social life today. Those who can use digital services have better access to information, public services, healthcare and many other areas of public life. For many older people, digitalization offers an opportunity to live independently for longer, stay in contact with others and actively participate in life in Berlin. That is why we see basic digital skills as part of public services of general interest.
Our mission
The Berlin network "Digital Empowerment in Old Age" is actively committed to ensuring that all older people in Berlin - regardless of their personal life situation - have the opportunity to acquire basic digital skills. Our common goal is to help older people to navigate the digital world safely and independently.
What connects us
As partners in the Berlin network "Digitale Befähigung im Alter", we pursue the following goals:
- We want to create structures throughout Berlin that give older people access to digital education in their own living environment.
- These services should be easily accessible, accessible, inclusive, non-commercial and, if possible, free of charge and tailored to the needs of older people.
- Data protection and IT security must be an integral part of all educational services so that trust in digital services is strengthened and reservations are reduced.
- At the same time, we are committed to the right to an analog life.
Our joint tasks
The partners in the network are committed to actively working together. We want to:
- share our offers, experiences and ideas with each other and network.
- make existing educational offers more visible and easy to use for everyone.
- identify the needs of older people and further develop suitable offers.
- contribute our knowledge and pass it on to full-time and voluntary workers as well as interested older people.
- work together to enable digital participation for all older Berliners.
Digital participation in old age is not a luxury - it is part of a vibrant, inclusive society. This is what we stand for together as a network.
