About the AWO

The Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) was founded in 1919 by the SPD politician and women's rights activist Marie Juchacz. Since then, the AWO has provided advice and a wide range of services to help people help themselves. AWO Berlin is also an important player in Berlin's social policy.

As a welfare organization, the Berlin AWO is active in various areas of social work. The AWO and its member organizations employ around 8,100 people in Berlin. As an association, the Berlin AWO currently has around 6,000 members.

Honorary and voluntary work have a long tradition and are highly valued. Our many volunteers bring the values of the AWO - solidarity, tolerance, freedom, equality and justice - to life. Whether reading to children in a day care center, supporting young people on their way to work, visiting elderly people or helping them with digital issues - there are many ways to get involved in the AWO. Working together with heart and soul to make our society more social and humane - that is the goal of Arbeiterwohlfahrt, even after more than 100 years.
