Senior Citizens' Representation Tempelhof-Schöneberg
The senior citizens' association represents 100,000 older people in the district. Older people see things differently than younger people: * A curb that is not lowered can be an insurmountable obstacle. * What is the use of a park without a park bench and toilet? * How do I get the right advice on housing benefits? * The subway still doesn't have an elevator. Although the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has been in force since 2009. * The law states that older people can participate in community life independently. Are opportunities for this equally distributed? * 29 euro ticket. But what do I do if I don't have or can't use a cell phone, computer or printer? These are just a few of the questions that the senior citizens' association deals with. The Berlin senior citizens' associations have taken the initiative for a law on the structure of care for the elderly: "A good life in old age" - that's a nice title. The senior citizens' representatives - most of them women - meet regularly and discuss what can be done. Sometimes they call somewhere and pave the way. Sometimes they write letters and emails. Sometimes they write applications to the BVV. Or they "cause trouble" in the committees. And sometimes we go out on the streets, collect signatures or inform people about our work. We inform the press and the media so that they report on the problems of older people.
