Prevention and senior citizen safety in the Berlin police force
Prevention for older people is an important concern for us as the Berlin police. Two major areas are of importance here - crime prevention and traffic accident prevention. Many departments in the Berlin Police are involved in this prevention work.

Crime prevention
The Central Office for Prevention at the Berlin State Office of Criminal Investigation has its own senior citizens' safety unit. The "contact persons for senior citizen safety" working there deal with crimes that particularly affect older people. The focus here is on fraud in the home and on the telephone. However, other topics such as pickpocketing and purse snatching are also taken into account.
Together with the prevention officers in the 37 police departments in Berlin, we offer a range of services on these topics. These include:
- free presentations for groups,
- information stands,
- the "Prevention Theater of Police Section 22" and
- the provision of brochures and other materials.
The Prevention Theater takes place once a month. All the actors are police officers. They provide important information and tips on how to behave in a humorous way.
We are supported in the presentations by retired police officers. They work on a voluntary basis and contribute a great deal of life experience and service experience.
The "Contact persons for senior citizen safety" at the Central Office for Prevention offer an advice hotline. It is exclusively for advice and can be reached on (030) 4664 97 92 22.
In an emergency, please always call 110!

Traffic accident prevention
Mobility in everyday life is a prerequisite for older people to lead an independent life. It is therefore an important basic need. The primary goal is to maintain this and to increase road safety for all road users.
Aims of road accident prevention:
The most important aim of road accident prevention is to increase road safety. All road users are made aware of the dangers of road traffic.
The feeling of safety in road traffic should be strengthened. In addition, personal responsibility and shared responsibility should be developed and promoted.
The self-reflection of everyone should be supported in the event of age-related performance losses.
Elderly people in particular should be made aware of and sensitized to the dangers in road traffic as drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
All year round, targeted preventive events are offered by the road safety advisors of all police sections. For example, at meeting places with the topics of visibility in road traffic and safe road crossing.
The prevention mobile of the Berlin police is used regularly. It provides a flexible neighborhood service regardless of the weather. This provides the opportunity to make direct contact with each other in an uncomplicated manner.
In addition, regular "consultation hours" are offered at popular locations (e.g. market squares).
The Berlin police work together with other road safety partners as part of the "Berlin Charter for Road Safety". As a result, projects and events specifically for the needs of senior citizens are also planned for the future.
Offers are published via the Berlin police events calendar, via the Berlin digital senior citizens' network, via police reports or via the senior citizens' facilities themselves.
