Berlin Chamber of Pharmacists
The Berlin Chamber of Pharmacists (AK Berlin) is the professional association representing all approximately 6,000 pharmacists in Berlin. It has the status of a public corporation (KdöR). As such, the Chamber performs state functions in a self-governing capacity. The framework for the Chamber's activities is defined by the Berlin Health Professions Chamber Act. The responsible supervisory authority is the Senate Department for Science, Health and Care.
Our members are the pharmacists of Berlin. They are actively involved in various bodies, including the General Assembly and the Executive Board, as well as specialist committees and commissions. This commitment and the close cooperation between these bodies make it possible to directly incorporate the expertise of our members into daily work and, for example, to monitor compliance with professional obligations with due consideration.
The Chamber's work ensures, among other things, the supply of medicines and the safety of medication therapy for patients. It also monitors the quality of pharmacists' professional practice. Through continuing education and training, Chamber members not only receive targeted training but also continuously improve the quality of their consultations. Topics relevant to the older population are also part of these training programs. For example, the Chamber offers seminars on "Medication Review for Elderly, Geriatric Patients" and "Sleep Disorders in Old Age."
Key issues affecting all citizens are also addressed. For example, "Vaccinations in public pharmacies." This ensures that all patients, such as those with limited mobility or without a family doctor, can easily and conveniently get vaccinated against influenza or Covid-19 close to home.
Furthermore, the emergency pharmacy service is organized by the Chamber of Pharmacists. This service is legally mandated, ensuring that a pharmacy is open in every district at night, on weekends, and on public holidays.
